May is Latino Music Month
in the Live Music Capital of the World
On November 17, 2005, the Austin City Council declared the month of May to be “Latino Music Month” in the City of Austin. Austin Latino Music Association(ALMA), the Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB), M.E. Television (Cable Channel 15) and Austin Energy were the entities that contributed a great deal of financial and in-kind resources to the effort.
May 2006 was the very first official “Latino Music Month.” Over 150 performances of Latino music took place during Latino Music Month 2006 in over 70 different venues. For Latino Music Month 2007, over 300 Latino music performances took place in over 100 venues in the Austin area. Latino Music Month 2008 and Latino Music Month 2009 both featured over 350 performances in over 100 venues. We look forward to a bigger and better month in 2010.
