Women In Latin Music - 2010, (Celebration of International Women's Day)

Celebrating diversity through “Women in Latin Music," is slated to be first of its kind at an event hosted on March 5th by the Austin Latino Music Association.Central Texas fans and music lovers will join in supporting global celebration of International Women’s Day this month during the event by highlighting Austin’s own Latino women music artists.
ALMA is proud to present gifted Latino women music artist whom will perform lovely and powerful lyrics at Jovita’s Restaurant.
Featured artists include: Cerronato, Myrna Rocks Band and Los Texas Wranglers, featuring vocalists Joyce Adams and Nikki López. Among the special guests invited include Austin elementary age girls that have participated and learned from accordion workshops taught by Grammy winning artist and producer, Joel Guzmán.
“This celebration is simply to promote, showcase and demonstrate our appreciation to our local Latino women artists. They are just as equally talented in their contributions through voice into our souls,” said Liz López, ALMA Board Member.
Latino women in music are making a breakthrough as Austin’s population continues to reflect increased cultural diversity. Please join ALMA to support “no more gender barriers” in music by highlighting Latino women who can perform hybrid sounds for their audience with unique styles.
Doors open at 6 pm with performances by special guests and activities related to International Women’s Day, including a fashion show, networking opportunities, information about the Go Red for Women/Go Red por Tu Corazón campaign and a silent auction. The silent auction will include a Taylor Big Baby acoustic guitar with a Taylor soft case valued at $450.00.
Live music by the aforementioned bands is from 8 pm - 12 am.
